Where To Retire Names Top 100

For the third consecutive time, SummerGlen has topped the list of the best places to retire in America by being chosen one of the 100 Best Master Planned Communities for 2009 by Where To Retire Magazine.

Every two years, Where To Retire selects the 100 master-planned communities in the US which it considers to offer the best in quality, value and lifestyle. SummerGlen was included in that prestigious list in 2005 and 2007. The 2009 list was announced in the July/August issue of the magazine.

According to Where To Retire, “during a nine-month selection process, our editors reviewed several hundred candidates across the country. Your community (SummerGlen) is among an elite group of developments that offer today’s retiree’s a well-rounded, active lifestyle.”

In this issue, Where To Retire quoted SummerGlen residents Rich and Connie DeStefanis, who lived in Vero Beach but didn’t find what they wanted for retirement there. “We were looking for a 55-plus community that offered a lot of activities and where we could have social interaction with a lot of people,” says Rich. “We liked the activities. The clubs have just about anything you want to do, and the people are very friendly. The builder was accommodating on changes to the home, which other places weren’t flexible.”

Be sure to check out the July/August 2009 issue of Where To Retire for the complete list of America’s 100 Best Master Planned Communities. The magazine is available on newstands and by subscription.

Where To Retire is probably the country’s most popular magazine aimed at seniors who are seeking the best in retirement living. SummerGlen is honored to have received this distinctive award as representing the very finest living that our country offers for active adults..

summergreenlogofinalSummerGlen continues to set new standards in building “green” energy efficient homes. We’re just made Tailored Foam insulation standard on the living area exterior block walls of all SummerGlen homes. Tailored Foam is a foam insulation that is pressure injected into the open cells of a home’s exterior concrete block walls. This process helps to seal the walls, it keeps out the heat, humidity, bugs, and noise. Tailored Foam achieves the highest “R” value and reduces air infiltration better than any other type of masonry insulation.

We’ve also increased the ceiling insulation in all living areas to an extra efficient R-48. Plus we’ve increased the SEER rating on SummerGlen homes air conditioning systems to a high-efficiency 13 SEER value. These improvements means SummerGlen homeowners will enjoy homes that are more comfortable, quiet and efficient than ever before. And homeowners will be helping to save our planet’s resources, while at the same time saving substantially on their energy bills.

These new standards, along with the ones we already have in place, put SummerGlen in the forefront of “green” homebuilding technology. All of our homes now meet or exceed the green building standards established by the National Association of Homebuilders. That means that we build them to minimize the impact of construction on the earth and design them so that you can live comfortably with minimal impact on our planet’s resources.  At SummerGlen, we believe you can “live green” without paying a premium for the privilege of living in an eco-friendly community. That’s why we’ve incorporated all of these green building standards and environmentally-friendly features to be included in the standard price of every home we sell.

gh090424_4Wow,  it’s hard to believe SummerGlen’s new Grand Hall just began construction two weeks ago, and already the concrete block walls are going up.  Over the past two weeks, we’ve poured more than 5,000 cubic feet of concrete to form the foundation and floor slab of the Grand Hall.  Now mason’s are busy taking up the walls on the new 8,000 square foot building.

We’re tracking Grand Hall construction progress on SummerGlen’s website.  Click here to view our progress page.

It’s another beautiful day at SummerGlen. Our new Grand Hall is coming along nicely. We should be pouring the floor slab early next week– a major milestone.

Here are some interesting facts about the new Grand Hall.

  •  It will seat up to 712 people for concert style seating. It’s the greenest building we’ve ever built at SummerGlen.
  • It’s extremely energy efficient. It even has CO2 sensors in its state of the art AC system that detects exactly how much outside air is needed for any particular crowd size, thus saving the cost of air conditioning warmer outside air when it’s not necessary.
  •  It has a state of the art sound and audio system that will allow for a wide variety of events.

At this point, we expect the new Grand Hall will be finished considerably earlier than our planned completion date in late 2009–stay tuned for Grand Opening details.

SummerGlen was awarded still another major honor on March 20, 2009, when it captured “best in show” at the 2009 Marion County Parade of Homes.  The community’s entry was “The Bal Harbor”, a three-bedroom, two-bath, plus den design that is one of the most popular among SummerGlen’s more than 20 standard home designs.  Parade judges sited the Bal Harbor’s kitchen as one of the best of all homes judged, as well as the home’s overall design and quality.

SummerGlen received a special trophy (shown at left) at the Marion County Builders Association Awards Ceremony.  The trophy was on display in the Bal Harbor through the end of the Parade on March 29, and is now on display in the SummerGlen Sales Center.

More than two dozen homes throughout the Ocala/Marion County area competed in the spring Parade, which is sponsored annually by the Marion County Building Industry Association.  Homes receive awards in various categories, which are arranged according to the price of the home.

In addition to the Parade of Homes award, SummerGlen has three times been named as one of the top 100 master planned adult communities in the United States by “Where To Retire” magazine.
